Outlook Calendar and Task reminders do not appear as expected

The reason for this problems is following

• Microsoft Outlook is not running. Unlike Microsoft Schedule+, which has a separate file to handle reminders, the main Outlook program controls the reminders. If Outlook is not running, reminders do not display.
• The Calendar or Task reminder is not in your primary folder. Reminders only trigger from within the primary Calendar or Task folders. Primary folders reside where you receive messages. When you set up an e-mail service, you designate either your mailbox Inbox or your personal folders (.pst) file Inbox as the mail delivery point.

For example, if you receive messages in your personal folders (.pst) file Inbox and you create an appointment reminder in your mailbox Calendar, the reminder does not display. If you create the same reminder in your Personal Folders Calendar, the reminder does display at the appropriate time.

Note Reminders trigger from other Calendar and Task folders in Microsoft Office Outlook 2007.
• The Delivery option of your e-mail service is set to "None" (without quotation marks). You must specify a default delivery location for reminders to be processed.
• The Reminders folder is damaged or contains corrupt reminder items.

To resolve this problems do the follow

• If Outlook is not running, start Outlook, and keep Outlook running to receive reminders.
• When you create reminders, verify that they are saved in your primary Calendar or Task folder.
• Exit Outlook, click Start, point to Run, type outlook /cleanreminders, and then click OK.
• Exit Outlook, click Start, point to Run, type outlook /resetfolders, and click OK. Use this method if the /cleanreminders switch does not resolve the problem.

For more information about this problems use the Email Support Services.

How to make a backup copy of a .pst file

In this section i am goging to discuss about .pst problems with outlook and provides Outlook Support tips to take backup of .pst folder. If you do not use Outlook with Microsoft Exchange Server, Outlook stores all its data in a .pst file. You can use the backup copy to restore your Outlook data if the original .pst file is damaged or lost. This section explains how to create a copy of your whole .pst file, with all the default items in the file.

Follow these steps to back up the whole .pst file:
1. Close any messaging programs such as Outlook, Microsoft Exchange, or Microsoft Windows Messaging.
2. Click Start, and then click Run. Copy and paste (or type) the following command in the Open box, and then press ENTER:
control panel
Control Panel opens.

Note If you see the Pick a category screen, click User Accounts, and then go to step 3.
3. Double-click the Mail icon.
4. Click Show Profiles.
5. Click the appropriate profile, and then click Properties.
6. Click Data Files.
7. Under Name, click the Personal Folders Service that you want to back up. By default, this service is called Personal Folders. However, it may be named something else.

Note If you have more than one Personal Folders Service in your profile, you must back up each set of .pst files separately.

If there are no entries called Personal Folders and you have not yet stored any information such as messages, contacts, or appointments in Outlook, you probably have not yet enabled the Personal Folders Service. Go to the "References" section for information about how to create a .pst file.

If you have no Personal Folders Services in your profile and you can store information such as messages, contacts, or appointments in Outlook, your information is probably being stored in a mailbox on an Exchange Server. Try using the instructions in the "How to back up .pst file data that is located on a Microsoft Exchange Server" section.
8. Click Settings, and then note the path and file name that appears.

Note Because the .pst file contains all data that is stored in the MAPI folders that Outlook uses, the file can be very large. To reduce the size of the .pst file, click Compact Now in the Settings window.
9. Close all the Properties windows.
10. Use Windows Explorer or My Computer to copy the file that you noted in step 8. You can copy the file to another location on the hard disk drive or to any kind of removable storage media, such as a floppy disk, a CD-ROM, a portable hard disk drive, a magnetic tape cassette, or any other storage device.

Daylight Saving Time Tutorial

Overview:Daylight saving time (DST), and "Summer Time" in much of Europe, is the practice of moving local time forward one hour in the spring and backwards in the autumn. These spring and fall shifts to DST are different between northern and southern hemispheres. The start of DST in the northern hemisphere is in March or April (depending on the country/continent), and ending in October or November. In the southern hemisphere, the changes are the opposite, with DST beginning in October and ending in March or April. Generally, DST is not observed in Asia and Africa, and parts of Central and South America.

Challenges introduced by changes to DST:Unless certain updates are applied to your computer, the time zone settings for your computer's system clock may be incorrect during this four-week period. In particular, you must make sure that both your Windows operating system and your calendar programs are updated.

Observance in Canada and the United States:In the United States, the Energy Policy Act (EPAct) of 2005 introduced changes to the start and end dates of DST, which began in 2007. Now, DST in North America is observed across most of the United States as well as Canada from the second Sunday in March through to the first Sunday in November. In 2008, DST across much of the United States and Canada began at 2:00AM (02:00) local time on March 9, several weeks earlier than in years prior to 2007. DST will end later than in years prior to 2007, at 2:00AM local time on November 2 in 2008. This results in a new DST period that is approximately three to four weeks longer than in previous years.

Observance in Europe:European Summer Time is observed across most of Europe from the last Sunday in March through the last Sunday in October. In 2008, European Summer Time began at 01:00 Greenwich Mean Time (GMT) on March 30, 2008, and will end at 01:00 GMT on October 26, 2008.

What is E-mail Spam?

E-mail spam, also known as "bulk e-mail" or "junk e-mail," is a subset of spam that involves nearly identical messages sent to numerous recipients by e-mail. A common synonym for spam is unsolicited bulk e-mail (UBE). Definitions of spam usually include the aspects that email is unsolicited and sent in bulk. "UCE" refers specifically to "unsolicited commercial e-mail."

E-mail spam slowly but exponentially grew for several decades to several billion messages a day. Spam has frustrated, confused, and annoyed e-mail users. Laws against spam have been sporadically implemented, with some being opt-out and others requiring opt in e-mail. The total volume of spam (over 100 billion emails per day as of April 2008) has leveled off slightly in recent years, and is no longer growing exponentially. The amount received by most e-mail users has decreased, mostly because of better filtering. About 80% of all spam is sent by fewer than 200 spammers. Botnets, networks of virus-infected computers, are used to send about 80% of spam. The cost of spam is borne mostly by the recipient, so it is a form of postage due advertising. For more about Email Problem and troubleshoot it go to Email Support Services.

E-mail addresses are collected from chatrooms, websites, newsgroups, and viruses which harvest users' address books, and are sold to other spammers. Much of spam is sent to invalid e-mail addresses. ISPs have attempted to recover the cost of spam through lawsuits against spammers, although they have been mostly unsuccessful in collecting damages despite winning in court.

ClearContext Personal Beta Program Begins, Puts Outlook Information in Context to Prevent Email Overload

ClearContext Corporation, a company that helps people work more effectively with email, today announced the beta launch of ClearContext Personal, a free Outlook add-in to help organize your email and make your inbox better. "Email applications are built around the concept of processing messages on a one-by-one basis, an approach that is no longer viable for many people due to the number of emails they receive and all of the different tasks now being done in email," said Deva Hazarika, co-founder and CEO of ClearContext. "We provide the context to help people go beyond just dealing with individual messages, taking email productivity to a new level."

ClearContext PersonalBurdened with an overwhelming volume of incoming email, people are faced with a number of key questions:

Which messages are most important and need to be dealt with first? How can I quickly process all the information in my inbox? How do I keep all that information organized?

ClearContext addresses those questions by automatically putting different types of information that flows through email in the appropriate context. Outlook users are able to get through their email faster and stay organized, saving them time and reducing the stress and frustration of email.

ClearContext brings order to the inbox by identifying and highlighting the most important messages based on your past email history so you can deal with them first. Messages or entire conversation threads can be filed to the right folder with a single click, while unwanted email threads can be muted from the inbox. A threaded conversation view lets people easily follow the entire conversation.

Since email involves much more than just the messages, all the related attachments and contacts in each folder are organized so the user can easily take actions like forwarding groups of attachments or creating distribution lists of related contacts. People can also navigate and preview attachments within Outlook just like browsing through files on their desktop.

Automated notification emails from a wide variety of applications and websites are a growing source of interruptions for people and clog up inboxes. ClearContext Notification Managers move those emails out of the inbox into folders automatically categorized to let you know if important notifications have arrived. ClearContext and its users are developing a growing gallery of templates, and customized notification managers can easily be developed for any type of messages.

ClearContext has spent years working with high-volume business email users ranging from individual small business owners to senior management at global corporations to develop solutions for their email problems. ClearContext Personal brings the benefit of that experience to all Outlook users who struggle to keep up with their email, allowing them to feel less stressed and be more productive with email.

Key ClearContext Personal Features

FolderContext - view contacts and attachments for each folder
MessageContext - see threaded conversation view for each email message
Attachment Explorer - explore and preview attachments just like desktop folders
Unsubscribe - mute conversations you don't want in your inbox
Notification Managers - automatically file and categorize automated emails

About ClearContext CorporationClearContext, based in San Francisco, CA, develops applications that help individuals effectively manage their time and information. The company's product suite includes the free ClearContext Personal Outlook add-in to help organize your email and make your inbox better, and the upcoming ClearContext Professional Outlook project management add-in.

AVG Anti-Virus Free Edition 8.0

AVG Technologies Releases AVG Anti-Virus Free 8.0

AVG Technologies, a leading provider of Internet security software, will tomorrow release AVG Anti-Virus Free 8.0, the latest version of the company’s popular and widely-used free security software, which now incorporates protection against spyware through a new combined anti-virus and anti-spyware engine.

AVG Free provides basic protection against viruses and spyware, together with the safe-searching component of the company’s patent-pending LinkScanner® technology, incorporated into the new AVG Security Toolbar. The Free product does not include the proactive safe-surfing (“drive-by download” protection) of the full LinkScanner module that is included in the commercial AVG products, nor the protection against hackers, keyloggers, spam, phishing attacks, and malicious file downloads that can come through instant messaging and attachments from seemingly friendly sources. The free product also does not include the round-the-clock email support provided with the commercial products.

“With the release of AVG Free 8.0, we are underscoring our belief that all computer users, regardless of their computer usage needs, have the right to a safe and worry-free computing experience,” says Karel Obluk, chief technology officer at AVG Technologies. “However, it is important for users to remember that AVG Free does not protect against the full range of today’s web-borne threats. For complete protection, users should consider AVG’s commercial products, which scan for and block threats before they can infect the computer or disrupt the user experience.”

AVG Technologies released the 8.0 versions of its commercial products in February 2008. Home users can choose AVG’s full Internet Security suite, AVG Anti-Virus or AVG Anti-Virus plus Firewall, while business users can select networked versions of the Anti-Virus and Internet Security products as well as file- and email-server based Anti-Virus.

AVG Free 8.0 is intended for personal and non-commercial use on single computers running Windows 2000, XP or Vista. The product will be released initially in English, with Japanese following next week; other language versions are planned for release over the next several months. Interested users can download the software at this site or at third-party download sites such as CNet Download.com.

Icomm's bid to cut out network failures for SMEs

West Midlands IT service and support firm Icomm says it is helping SMEs across the region with a system aimed at reducing unexpected network failures.

Nearly 80 per cent of businesses consider the inability to access important information to be a critical or serious concern, with downtime directly affecting productivity.

Icomm’s Ian Callens said: "Continuity is often top of the agenda for SMEs and now more than ever they are looking to outsource highly skilled functions to help reduce costs and increase productivity.

"Outsourcing IT management and support allows staff to focus on their core roles such as administration and accounting, thus increasing the efficiency of the workforce.

"Our SpirIT solution has been developed to automatically and remotely manage networks 24/7, enabling us to monitor trends in the network environment and highlight performance issues prior to a system failure."

According to Mr Callens, issues commonly arise when staff who lack adequate technology expertise manage networks.

"Many SMEs allow employees access to their networks when problems arise, ranging from email issues and problems to server malfunctions.

"Businesses feel they are cutting costs by utilising staff who have some knowledge of IT but non-specialists could be doing more harm than good, ultimately costing the business more in the long term."

An Introduction To Email Servers

To send e-mail, you need to connect to the Internet and an e-mail application, such as Microsoft Outlook Express or Eudora. The e-mail application connects to your mail server that can forward your mail. The standard protocol used for sending Internet e-mail is called SMTP, an acronym for Simple Mail Transfer Protocol. It works in conjunction with a POP3 (Post Office Protocol) server or an IMAP (Internet Mail Access Protocol) server, which are used to receive e-mails.

When you send an e-mail message, your computer transmits it to an SMTP server using the Internet. The server looks at the e-mail address (like the address on an envelope), then forwards on it to the recipient's mail server using an application called Sendmail. If for some reason, the recipient?s e-mail server is inaccessible, Sendmail periodically re-tries to send the e-mail. If after 4 hours the e-mail has not been delivered, you receive a notification informing you about the problem. If the e-mail cannot be delivered even after 5 days, Sendmail gives up and sends you a failure notification.

When the e-mail is received at the destination mail server, it is stored until it is retrieved by the addressee. To retrieve your e-mails, your e-mail client (such as Microsoft Outlook or Outlook Express) connects to the POP3 or IMAP server and issues a series of commands to download copies of your e-mail messages to your computer.

E-mails can be sent anywhere in the world to anyone who has an e-mail address. Almost all Internet service providers (ISPs) offer an e-mail address with every account.

Initially, when e-mail technology was introduced, only short messages could be sent. Attachments such as formatted documents, photographs etc could not be sent. With the introduction of Multipurpose Internet Mail Extension (MIME) and other encoding techniques, it has become possible to send almost any kind of attachments.

Anatomy of a Web Page

This post Describe about Email Support Functionality. But I want to share My Experience with E-mail Support and Computer Support.

A web page is an electronic document written in a computer language called HTML, short for Hypertext Markup Language. Each web page has a unique address, called a URL or Uniform Resource Locator that identifies where it's located on the network.

A website has one or more related web pages, depending on how it's designed. Web pages on a site are linked together through a system of hyperlinks, enabling you to jump between them by clicking.

When you browse the Word Wide Web you'll see the term home page often. Think of a home page as the starting point of a website. Like the table of contents of a book or magazine, the home page usually provides an overview of what you'll find at the website. A site can have one page, many pages or a few long ones. If there isn't a lot of information, the home page may be the only page. But usually you will find at least a few other pages.

Web pages vary wildly in design and content, but many use a traditional magazine format. At the top of the page is a masthead or banner graphic, then a list of items, such as articles, often with a brief description. The items in the list usually link to other pages on the site, or to other sites. Sometimes these links are highlighted words in the body of the text, or are arranged in a list, like an index. They can also be a combination of both. A web page may also have "hot" images that link to other content.

How can you tell which text are links? Text Links appear in a different color from the rest of the text--typically in blue and often underlined. When you move your cursor over a text link or over a graphic link, it changes from an arrow to a hand. The hypertext words often hint at what you will link to.

When you return to a page with a link you've already visited, the hypertext words will often be in a different color, which indicates that you've already been there. But you can certainly go there again by clicking the link. Don't be surprised though, if the next time you visit a page it looks different and the information has changed. The Web is a dynamic medium. To encourage visitors to return to a site, many web publishers update their sites frequently. That's what makes browsing the Web so engaging. In This post I discussed on Anatomy of web page. How to work with Word Wide Web and Computer Help on Internet

Your Email Signature Can Generate New Leads

How effective is your email signature?

There are so many things you can do with your email signature and you may be missing out.
You can add your promotional message to your email signature, to raise your company's profile.
Also add links to your website and to your blog.

Whenever you send an email containing that email signature, all the links will display and the recipient of the email is free to click through it.

The links on your email signature last, even when the email is forwarded to others. It can therefore capture more leads for you, when people click through the links to your website.
You can set up email signatures on web-based email accounts, and also on email accounts held on Outlook and Outlook Express.

Furthermore, as your business changes and evolves, you can change and update your email signature accordingly.

Here is an example of an email signature:

Your Name Your Company Name Your Website Address

If you are using Microsoft Outlook, you can even use advanced functions to add images to your email signature.

However, a note of caution regarding images as part of your email signature. Some email clients will block the image. If the image is not displayed, it is probably worse than not having an image at all. In addition, if your email recipient uses a mobile email device, for example, a BlackBerry, then your image signature will not be part of your email but will show up as an attachment. So if possible use only text in your email signature, to ensure that the information you want to convey can actually be seen by the recipient of your email

Email Issues, How To Get Rid Of Undeliverable Email

Don’t you get annoyed when you send an email and it comes back as ‘undeliverable’?

If yes, then it is an Email Issues. I know this, it is so frustrating because it breaks my flow of work. I have to stop what I am doing and call the person or check with someone that might know the latest email address. Chances are that the person has moved and their email address has changed. Tracking down the person is always very frustrating and time consuming.

E-mailing is the most popular and efficient way to contact with people or businesses. However, as you and I know, emailing has its frustrating moments. When people change their email address, the chain of smooth communication is broken. It is astonishing that with all the modern technology, no one has come up with a solution for this frequent problem.

I have one Question. Why doesn’t the post office allow us to indicate our old and new email address on the ‘change of address’ form when we move and change our physical address?

I would not mind filling out a ‘change of email’ field when I move. Chances are I will be changing my ISP service at the new location, so it will take care of that problem too. Now the post office can forward my mail as well as my email. I would not mind even paying a small fee for the added service and it could be a new source of revenue for the post office.

Stop Email From Killing Your Productivity

Email is one of the greatest innovations of the online world, but if you are not careful it will suck up your time, and be a far detriment to your business than a benefit.

Here are some tips for taming the email beast.

Turn It Off

During the day when you are working, turn off your email client. You do not need to be connected to everyone at all times of the day. If you leave your email client running while you are trying to work, as soon as that next new message comes in, you will get distracted. The constant barrage of new incoming email will break you concentration and make a project that would normally take only an hour of focused attention take four or five times as long.

Check It Infrequently

Once you are managed to turn your email client off, resist the temptation to keep turning it back on all day. Checking your email once or twice a day is plenty ? really.

Schedule Email Time

If you typically get a lot of email correspondence that you need to reply to throughout the day, then schedule half an hour or an hour as replying to email time. Take care of all the email you need to reply to at once. You will find that by being able to put your focused attention to taking care of email, your replies will be thought out better, and you will be able to get all of your email taken care of far more quickly and efficiently.

Spam Filters

A good spam filter really can be a productivity tool. Fortunately, they will readily available and surprisingly accurate these days. Put one on your inbox so that you are not spending your time trying to filter out all the spam before you ever start replying to the legitimate emails.
Get A Personal Assistant Or Customer Support.

If you really get a lot of email and a lot of it does not require your personal attention ? i.e. someone trained in your business could just as easily reply to it, then get yourself a personal assistant or customer support person who will take care of almost all the email and only forward the essential messages to you. This will free up your time to focus on far more important tasks like finding more customers and making money.

Facing Email Problems with Outlook Express? – Here Are Some Easy Tips

Lots of folks these days have at least one email address. More than not use Outlook Express. Unfortunately, Outlook Express can be difficult to work with at times. Especially if you run into an error while trying to use it.

There are a lot of things that can cause Outlook to have an error. Some of these things include:-

Failed connections - Failed connections are usually the easiest to fix. This is usually caused by not being connected to the Internet or Outlook Express failed to connect to the email server in the proper amount of time.

Address book crashes - Opening Outlook to get an Address Book error is difficult to fix. More so if your registry keys for it have become corrupt.

Email errors - Email errors are usually hard to track down sometimes. Congested ISP\'s or a dead email server can cause these problems.

POP errors - POP errors are tough. Most of the time they are due to server issues or congested Internet traffic like email errors.

Outlook crashes - Outlook crashes Sometimes Outlook Express can crash with errors. Most of the time an update or reinstalling the software will fix it.

Hopefully some of these things will help in dealing with Outlook Express errors you may have. Unfortunately, even these fixes may not work and may require additional assistance from another program or application.

E-mail Problem in Outlook Express

A problem and its solution is given below:-

Question

I am having problems with Outlook Express. My ISP is Orange, although it had been previously Wanadoo and Freeserve.

The following error message is displayed when Outlook Express attempts to check for new messages the connection to the server has failed. Account: top.freeserve.com? Server: tmtp.freeserve.com? Protocol: SMTP, Port: 25, Secure(SSL): No, Socket Error: 10051, Error Number: 0x800CCC0E?/SPAN>

Answers

The error number means that Outlook Express has been unable to connect to the email server, the computer on the internet that holds all the emails.

According to the Orange website all email accounts from Wanadoo, Freeserve and Fsnet now use a single email server called pop.orangehome.co.uk for incoming emails and smtp.orangehome.co.uk for outgoing emails.

Thankfully, this is very easy to change. Start Outlook Express, click on Tools and then accounts. Left click once on the email account and then on the Properties button. Click on the Servers tab and enter pop.orangehome.co.uk for incoming emails and smtp.orangehome.co.uk for outgoing emails.

Click on OK, then close and try checking for emails again.

The Three Email Problems – Spam, Phishing and E-mail worms

The usefulness of e-mail is being threatened by three phenomena: spamming, phishing and e-mail worms. Spamming is unsolicited commercial e-mail. Because of the very low cost of sending e-mail, spammers can send hundreds of millions of e-mail messages each day over an inexpensive Internet connection. Hundreds of active spammers sending this volume of mail results in information overload for many computer users who receive tens or even hundreds of junk messages each day.

E-mail worms use e-mail as a way of replicating themselves into vulnerable computers. Although the first e-mail worm affected UNIX computers, the problem is most common today on the more popular Microsoft Windows Operating System. The combination of spam and worm programs results in users receiving a constant drizzle of junk e-mail, which reduces the usefulness of e-mail as a practical tool.

The Dangers Of Unsolicited Email

There are many simple truths in today's world, and one of them is that if you have an email address then you've received spam. Spam is the common word for the unsolicited emails that we receive. Spam can be annoying, who wants to open their email up to see 200 messages and find out only seven are from people you know. Spam can also be fraudulent attempts to get personal or business information from you (this practice is sometimes referred to as "phishing").

If you are familiar with or have had communication before with a company that is currently sending you unsolicited emails, then usually the best practice is to reply to them and ask to be removed from the email list. Sometimes there will even be a link at the bottom of the email saying something to the effect of "click here to be removed from this list".

If, however, you are receiving unsolicited email from a company or person who you are not familiar with and have not communicated with before then do not contact them. Many times replying to these types of emails, or clicking their links to be removed from their email list, is just a way of verifying to them that it is an actual working email address that they are sending to. This only encourages them to send more spam your way and also to possibly sell your email address as part of a mailing list.

There are ways to deal with the spam problem. A lot of Internet or email providers have a spam blocker that is already on your email account and just needs to be activated or configured. For details on doing this you'll want to contact your provider. Another way to minimize your spam problem is to get an alternate email address. Many people have their main email account be the one that is furnished by their company or their Internet/email provider, but then get a secondary email address from a company that provides free email accounts (Yahoo, GMail, Hotmail, for example). They then use this secondary email account as the email address they sign up for newsletters and other things with. When that email account gets too bogged down with spam, they just register a new secondary email account.

Unsolicited emails can be a problem, in some cases a big problem, but just be aware of how to handle them. Don't allow the senders to know they are sending to an authentic email address and never provide personal or account information to these senders if replying.
